Hurricane Katrina was the eleventh named tropical storm, fourth hurricane, third major hurricane, and first Category 5 hurricane of the 2005 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
From August 25th to September 1st, 2005 Hurricane Katrina demolished everything in its path and the surrounding areas too. When the Hurricane left, the rain stopped, and the dust settled, destruction was everywhere, but thankfully so were caring and compassionate people wanting to help in anyway they could. People from around the country pitched in, including five of our very own Chaplains. Chaplains Dewey, Youngblood, Camp, Ott, and Eva Smith all spent two weeks each in affected areas, ministering to the emergency personnel, and assisting in anyway possible.
Chaplain Youngblood stated that, “it was encouraging to see people respond so positively to something so devastating.” The Chaplaincy was fortunate enough to receive donations to send to the Biloxi and Bay St. Louis, Mississippi Police and Fire Departments Personnel Fund. The emergency responders also lost everything and had to cope with that loss and do their jobs at the same time. With your donations, we were able to send several thousand dollars to their fund.
Please remember to keep those rebuilding in your thoughts and prayers.
